Spray Tanning
Achieve a natural-looking, sun-kissed glow without exposure to the sun with a professional St. Tropez spray tan.
A fine tanning mist is applied evenly over the body. The tanning ingredient DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) reacts with the uppermost layer of the skin to gradually develop your tan.
Your chosen tan and development time will determine the depth of colour, allowing you to achieve anything from a subtle glow to a deeper bronzed finish.
What Happens During a Spray Tan?
Your spray tan appointment takes approximately 20 minutes.
You will be given privacy to prepare before entering the tanning tent. Disposable underwear and a protective hair cap are available, although you are welcome to wear your own underwear if preferred. Dark colours are recommended.
Your chosen St. Tropez tanning mist is then professionally sprayed evenly over the body.
Once your spray tan is complete, you will be given a few minutes to allow the tan to dry before getting dressed.
For your journey home, please wear dark, loose-fitting clothing and footwear to avoid rubbing the developing tan.
Your Spray Tan Results
When you leave the salon, your skin will have a guide colour which helps show where the tanning product has been applied.
This guide colour should be rinsed away after the recommended development time for your chosen tan. Your finished tan will continue to develop, with the full result generally visible within 24 hours.
If you are having a spray tan for an important event, particularly a wedding, I recommend having a trial tan well in advance so you can choose your preferred colour and development time.

Spray Tan Options
Express Spray Tan
Ideal when you would like more control over the depth of your tan or don't want to leave your guide colour on for as long.
The depth of colour is determined by when you shower:
- Light, sun-kissed glow – rinse after approximately 1 hour
- Medium golden tan – rinse after approximately 2 hours
- Dark bronze tan – rinse after approximately 3 hours
Your tan will continue to develop after the guide colour has been rinsed away.
Classic Spray Tan
A traditional developing spray tan for a natural-looking bronzed finish.
The guide colour should be left on for a minimum of 8 hours before showering and can usually be left on overnight.
Preparing for Your Spray Tan
For the best and most even result:
• Exfoliate your entire body the evening before or morning of your appointment, paying particular attention to dry areas such as the hands, elbows, knees and feet.
• Complete any shaving or waxing at least 24 hours before your spray tan.
• Arrive with clean, dry skin free from self-tan, moisturiser, perfume, deodorant and body oils.
• Wear dark, loose-fitting clothing and suitable loose footwear for your journey home.
• Avoid tight clothing immediately after your appointment as this may rub against the developing tan.
After Your Spray Tan
While your tan is developing:
• Avoid touching or rubbing your skin unnecessarily.
• Avoid water, excessive heat, sweating and exercise until your guide colour has been rinsed away.
• Avoid swimming, saunas and steam rooms during the development period.
• Shower after the recommended development time for your chosen tan.
• Rinse until the water runs clear. Don't worry if lots of colour appears to wash away, as much of this is simply the guide colour.
• Gently pat your skin dry rather than rubbing it with your towel.
Some guide colour may transfer onto clothing or bedding while your tan is developing, so dark colours are recommended.
Making Your Spray Tan Last Longer
Once your first shower has been completed:
• Moisturise your skin daily to help keep it hydrated and encourage your tan to fade evenly.
• Use a gentle, oil-free moisturiser where possible.
• Gently exfoliate every 2–3 days as the tan begins to fade.
• Pat your skin dry after bathing or showering rather than rubbing.
• Avoid prolonged swimming, particularly in chlorinated pools, as this may cause your tan to fade more quickly.
• Avoid waxing while you wish to maintain your tan, as waxing will remove surface skin cells and can also remove your tan.
Patch Testing
A patch test is required at least 24 hours before your spray tan.
Patch tests are quick and can be booked separately before your treatment.
If the required patch test has not been completed, I will unfortunately be unable to carry out your spray tan and your appointment may need to be cancelled or rescheduled. Charges may apply in accordance with Orchid Beauty Room's Terms & Conditions.
If it has been 6 months or more since your last relevant treatment, or your medical circumstances have changed, a new patch test will be required.
Before Booking
Please check the relevant contraindications before booking, as certain medical conditions, medications or circumstances may mean a spray tan is unsuitable or needs to be postponed.
