Patch Test

What are patch tests and why are they so important?

What is a patch test?

A patch test is a way of checking that you are not allergic to the products used during your treatment.

A small amount of the product is used to do a skin test in an innocuous place on your body, for example:

For either a tinting, lash lift and spray tanning patch test, I will put a small amount of product behind your ear(s) or inside your elbow(s)

Once I have applied the product, you will need to wait a while before checking whether it has caused any kind of reaction.

How long does a patch test take?

A patch test is performed within 5 minutes and needs to be done a minimum or 24 hours prior to your full treatment so that any side effects of a patch test can be determined. You will need to check for any signs of redness, itchiness or swelling.

What are the rules around patch tests?

There's no law saying that I must do a patch test before I carry out a treatment – but if the manufacturer of the product says a patch test is required and I do not do a test, my insurance company will not cover me even if you have signed a waiver or insist you do not need to be tested.

A patch test MUST be carried out for the following treatments at Orchid Beauty Room when you first visit and if you have not had a treatment within 6 months or if your medical status has changed since your last treatment;

  • Eyelash and Eyebrow Tinting
  • Lash Lifts
  • Spray Tans

If the test has any kind of negative reaction, the full treatment will not go ahead.

What will happen if I don't do an allergy test?

Your full treatment will be refused or cancelled and you may still be charged
